"Música invisible para trompeta" was inspired by "The Perspective of Disappearance", a chapter from the notebooks of the great artist and polymath Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo's observations on perspective and color in this chapter are truly revolutionary and have been said to anticipate the doctrines of impressionism. I tried to (attempts to) translate these concepts into sound in this series of pieces.
In addition to Da Vinci's texts, there are other quotations related thematically with the "Mona Lisa" topic: fragments of "La Gioconda" de Anibal Pontchielli and the song "Mona Lisa" by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston.
The process of writing this set of three pieces was a close and creative collaboration with the amazing Canadian trumpet player Amy Horvey. She has been a source of lots of techniques and theatrical possibilities. She toured “Música Invisible” in a solo programme called "The Perspective of Disappearance" in 2006, and in 2008 in “Italia solo tour”.
